8 Suggestions for MBA Students
by Ken Wilbur
If you want to maximize your competition for jobs, go after the job openings that everyone else wants.
If you want to minimize your ability to differentiate yourself, acquire the same skills that everyone else has.
If you want to get a job that will make you unhappy, don't define your objectives prior to starting your job search.
If you want to ignore some great options, limit your job search to on-campus opportunities.
If you want to ignore lessons others have learned, don't call people in the alumni network.
If you want to distract yourself, maximize your information intake. Be "always on."
If you want to make sure you don't grow, avoid doing things that are hard or scary.
If you want to get what you came for, you need to (1) clearly define what you want and (2) make it happen. If you're not sure what you want yet, get out of your comfort zone. Experiment with a few different things. Find out what you like and what you're good at.
